An Education With Multiple Tracks

From Working for an Attorney to Becoming One
When Laura Singh worked for an attorney in risk management, she negotiated contracts and wrote insurance claims. However, her next career was right in front of her.
"I decided, after seeing what the attorney was doing, that I could do the same work. I decided to go back to school and get my degree, so that I would have the flexibility that he had and would ultimately be able to do my own contract work."
Laura's ambition was well placed. Her studies at Purdue Global Law School (formerly Concord Law School) got off to an auspicious start when she received a certificate for excellence in the first year for getting the highest scores of her class. Since then, she's graduated from Purdue Global Law School with honors in the top 25% of her class. She also made the Dean's List three times as well as moot court, a process that replicates the real world of an attorney, from writing a case brief to arguing before a judge inside a courtroom.
"I learned a lot about advocacy and writing briefs, and it was an amazing experience," says Laura, who earned her bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Southern Nazarene University (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) in 2008.
A Competitive Education
"I was surprised at how rigorous it was. They actually test you and quiz you in class; they call you on the spot. And there's a lot of research as you go along. But I'm really glad, because in the real world I'm going to have to know how to research a case. I'm going to have to know how to look up all those things on my own. So I was really excited about that, and it really prepared me for the real adventure after the bar exam."
Laura plans to take the California State Bar Exam in the future.
Responsibility Meets Flexibility
With a family and a career, attending regular classes was not an option for Laura, and neither were late nights at the law library. "Purdue Global Law School gave me the opportunity to go to classes online where I could go on my own time. I could go to classes, you know, late at night. I studied every night almost for four years, from 8:00 to 12:00, and that would not have been possible at a brick-and-mortar school."

"It really prepared me for the bar exam. I've also learned how to write correctly for a legal brief. I've learned how to research; I've learned how to present myself in court. It's been a really great experience."
